Newcastle Institute for Energy and Research

In 2011 EJE achieved DA approval for a new 2100sqm energy efficient research laboratory building located on the former BHP Research Campus, adjacent the Callaghan Campus of the University of Newcastle. Completed in August 2013, the project accommodates highly conditioned generic research labs as well as naturally ventilated office accommodation which is assisted by a two storey atrium that separates the two.

The building is designed to be a flagship for the Institute and as such the detail design of the building and its materials have been selected according to the principles of “reduce, reuse, recycle”.
