We were contracted as the principal design consultant for the upgrade to the Western Grandstand and associated facilities of Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium (formerly Ausgrid Stadium). The project represents the culmination of a three-year site redevelopment effort. This state-of-the-art facility now offers world-class amenities for sporting and entertainment events, accommodating increased crowds of up to 33,000 spectators.
Notably, the Grandstand has been the recipient of numerous accolades in the building and construction industry. It earned recognition at the 2012 Engineering Excellence Awards and was honoured with the Newcastle Master Builders Association award for Commercial Projects Over $20 million in 2011.
The Western grandstand boasts an impressive array of features, including 13,500 seats, 21 corporate suites, 5 function rooms, 8 food and beverage outlets, and renowned player change rooms and media facilities. As the home stadium for the Newcastle Jets A-league and Newcastle Knights NRL teams, it adheres to international standards and has hosted various high-profile events such as the 2015 Asian Cup, as well as international Rugby League and Rugby Union matches.
