EJE are proud to hold the role of Principal Design Consultant for a new Residential Eating Disorders Centre proposed for Charlestown which will be the first of its kind in NSW. With thorough & considered involvement through each stage of the design, EJE have led the design team to achieve a unique and inspiring design for this important health facility.
Set within an area of natural vegetation, but with all the conveniences of Newcastle & the Hunter at its doorstep, this facility will provide a vital recovery centre that will serve our local region, and the wider state. The design has been carefully crafted in collaboration with residential architect Jodie Dixon to create a therapeutic user experience that will influence recovery and improve the wellbeing of occupants who will stay at the centre for up to 3 months duration.
The building form and arrangement is a thoughtful response to our client’s detailed emotional design brief and the site’s unique characteristics, optimising connections to the outdoors and landscape which play a crucial role in recovery. Internally, each of the areas has been caringly designed to provide nurturing homelike spaces for residents to heal in a supported and comfortable environment.
The centre will provide twelve resident rooms, a variety of lounge rooms and quiet nooks, as well as yoga & group therapy spaces, dining, kitchen, welcome room and administration & support service areas.
